Child Abuse Hotline Calls to Indiana DCS.
Indiana DCS receives about 214,000 reports annually. That's about 586 calls a day, or one every 2.5 minutes.
Hotline calls sent to a local DCS office for assessment.
These are calls that are acted on as potentially severe or warranting investigation. About 50% of all hotline reports are assigned for assessment.

Will open their doors to any and every child that needs them, every single day. Some will come in the middle of the night. Every child will be greeted by a neutral, child-friendly environment. They'll have access to expedited medical and mental health referrals, advocates, and more.
4 kids suffer a preventable death
In 2024 (the most recent reporting year), Indiana DCS investigated 276 suspected child fatalities. 59 deaths were substantiated. 18 were attributable to abuse and 41 died from neglect. That averages to 4 kids per month.
These are often kids no one spoke up for and never had an opportunity to visit a CAC. In Indiana, the vast majority of fatalities from abuse and neglect comes from parents or caregivers.

Are actively looking out for their students. About 55% of all DCS Hotline calls come from professionals working with kids, mostly school personnel but also healthcare professionals, daycare workers, and clinicians.
26% of all Hoosiers
Are also looking out for kids. About 26% of all DCS Hotline reports come from everyday Hoosiers. That's neighbors, friends, and family members concerned about what they see and know to trust their instinct. Everyone, regardless of profession or age, is required by Indiana law to report any suspicion of abuse.
73% of reports are about kids' homes
In 73% of substantiated reports of abuse, the abuse happens at a child's home.
90% of victims know their abuser
In Indiana, 90% of abused or harmed children know their abuser directly. Nationally, 80% of kids know their abuser.
